Fan Yang enters her eighth season as head coach of the Warriors in 2026-27. In the last two seasons, Yang led the Warriors to their first two top-eight finish at the PSAC Championships since the 2016–17 season and coached the program’s first individual back-to-back PSAC champion since 1977-78.
Under Yang, ESU has broken program records in every individual freestyle event, the 50-yard backstroke, the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke, and each freestyle and medley relay event.
Yang has the Warriors trending upward, as ESU has finished eighth at the PSAC Championships in consecutive seasons. Driven by their five All-PSAC finishes at the meet, ESU scored 504 points, a program record for the conference championships. Vera Renshof became the first ESU women’s swimmer to win the same event in consecutive years, posting a time of 1:51.61 in the 200-yard freestyle. Anique Hazebroek put up three individual All-PSAC performances, including a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.66) and two third-place finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:21.94) and the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:21.95). ESU’s fifth All-PSAC mark came from the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Hazebroek, Mikayla Potts, Anna Stauffer, and Renshof, who put up a time of 7:40.83. In addition to Hazebroek’s time in the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 800-yard freestyle relay team’s finish, eight other program records were set in 2026. Hazebroek set new records in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.66) and 1,650-yard freestyle (17:16.99), and Vera Renshof (100-yard freestyle, 50.99), Chelsea Chiu (50-yard backstroke, 26.96), and Tamara Engler (100-yard breaststroke, 1:05.97) each set an individual mark. Three relay teams also put their names at the top of the record book, as Stauffer, Hazebroek, Chiu, and Renshof put a time of 1:37.35 together in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and the group of Chiu, Engler, Hazebroek, and Renshof set new records in the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.83) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:57.05).
The 2024–25 season was a landmark year for the Warriors, highlighted by Vera Renshof winning the 200-yard freestyle to become the program’s first individual conference champion in 46 years. The team recorded six school records and one pool record. In freestyle events, Renshof swam a 1:51.23 in the 200, while Anique Hazebroek posted times of 5:05.10 in the 500 and 17:26.99 in the 1,650. In freestyle relays, the quartet of Brianna Wasem, Anna Stauffer, Hazebroek, and Renshof broke the school records in both the 400-yard relay (3:31.42) and the 800-yard relay (7:41.96). The unit of Ava Palochik, Kennedy Leveto, Avery Fohring, and Renshof also set a school record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:47.95. At the PSAC Championships, the Warriors earned nine top-eight finishes, securing an overall eighth-place team finish.
Yang recruited and developed Vera Renshof, who became the first Warrior since 1981 to take runner-up during an individual event at the conference meet, a school record mark in the 50-yd freestyle in 2024. Along with taking silver in the 50 free, Renshof took third in the 100-yd freestyle and fifth in the 200-yd freestyle. Freshman Anique Hazebroek made an immediate impact, taking sixth in the 1650 free. Overall, ESU recorded a 6-2 record in dual meets in 2023-24. A total of eight Warriors posted 22 PSAC qualifying marks throughout the year. And guided the Warriors to their best finish at the PSAC Championships since 2019, recording 384.5 points for ninth place.
In 2022-23, the Vera Renshof became the first Warrior in nearly 20 seasons to earn a third-place finish at the PSAC Championships, with Renshof taking third in the 200 free. She also took fourth in the 100 free and sixth in the 50 free in her debut at the conference meet. ESU took 11th place at the PSAC Championships.
She helped ESU to a 4-3 dual record in 2021-22, with the Warriors taking 11th place at the PSAC Championships.
In 2021, the Warriors recorded a 2-0 record in dual meets, finished second of four teams in the Vulcan Virtual Invitational, and saw three swimmers qualify individually for seven different events at the PSAC Swimming Championships. Senior Samantha Christman earned the Warriors 11 points with a 16th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.
The Warriors recorded a 5-3 overall record and saw eight swimmers qualify individually for 10 different events at the 2020 PSAC Swimming Championships. ESU recorded three top-eight finishes in relay events, including the 200 Free (7th), 400 Free (7th), and 200 Medley (8th).
Four swimmers delivered top-10 times in program history for ESU during the 2019-20 campaign. Taylor Howery notched the 7th fastest time in the 100 Back and 8th fastest time in the 200 Back, while Emily Librandi recorded the 10th fastest swim in the 50 Free. Lexi Ferrante used a career-best time to place 7th all-time in the 1650 free, while Sarah Luigard's personal-best time in the 400 IM ranked fifth all-time.
ESU recorded five-straight victories in dual/tri meets before dropping their final meet against Bloomsburg. The Warriors also captured the ESU Invitational title to close their regular season. Three of ESU's five victories came against PSAC competition, including consecutive wins against Millersville on January 11 and 18.
Yang, who brings over 25 years of professional swimming and coaching experience, was a three-time champion in the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly at the Beijing College Swimming Championships (1999-2001). She placed first and broke the record in the 200-meter butterfly at the Hebei Province 9th Games. Yang also qualified in both the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly at the 1996 Olympic Trials.
Yang most recently worked at the Pocono Family YMCA in Stroudsburg as an assistant swimming coach. Before arriving in Stroudsburg, she spent two years as the assistant swimming coach at Lafayette College (2014-16). While coaching with the Leopards, Yang had one swimmer qualify for the 2016 Olympic Trials.
Before she arrived in Easton, Yang's coaching positions also included stops with the Peak Performance Camp in Seattle and Los Angeles, the Easton Aquatic Swimming Club, and Peak Performance Camp in Beijing, China.
Yang was previously employed as a swimming coach and teaching assistant at the International School of Beijing in China for nine years (2005-13).
Along with her other accomplishments as a swimmer, Yang competed in the China National Championships in 1995, 1997-98. She placed fourth in the 200-meter butterfly in 1997 and sixth in the 800-meter free in 1995.
Yang earned her bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Beijing Sport University, where she competed in the butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle. She completed her Master of Management degree from Massey University in New Zealand in 2005.
