SCHOLARSHIPS AND ENDOWMENTS
Doc-Ock Award
This award was named in memory of Dr. George Ockershausen, East Stroudsburg University faculty member for 34 years and chair of the Health Department. The Dock-Ock award is presented annually in rotating sequence to students participating in baseball, football, and wrestling. To be eligible, students must be enrolled full-time, have completed 45 credits and, have made outstanding and significant contributions to baseball, football, and/or wrestling.
Jack Gregory Football Grant-in-Aid
Honoring Jack Gregory, former East Stroudsburg University football coach, this scholarship is awarded to ESU football athletes who demonstrate academic excellence. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
Brian E. McClanahan Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Brian McClanahan, a 4-year letter winner in track from 1982-1985, this scholarship is awarded to members of the Men's Track Team who are enrolled as full-time students and have completed at least 60 credits, with a minimum 3.0 QPA, and have earned at least one varsity letter in men's track and field. S. Jerome and Phyllis Rubin Football Grant-in-Aid Scholarship
Named in honor of Pocono business leaders Jerome and Phyllis Rubin, two scholarships are awarded to outstanding football athletes who demonstrate academic excellence. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
Elsie E. Strube Scholarship
Established in the memory of Elsie Strube, this scholarship is given to freshmen entering the fall semester as members of the University football team. Eligible candidates must maintain a 2.3 QPA for renewal. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
Coach Denny Douds Endowed Football Scholarship
Established in honor of Football Coach Denny Douds, this scholarship is awarded to ESU varsity football players who must maintain a 2.5 QPA. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
Pasquale DiGiacchino Scholarship
This scholarship with a variable value was established by Dominic DiGioacchino to honor Pasquale DiGioacchino's contributions to East Stroudsburg University and the sport of wrestling. The recipient must meet the current NCAA academic eligibility standards and must show outstanding leadership skills and the ability to wrestle at the NCAA Division I level. Martin Wortley Scholarship
Established in memory of Martin Wortley '95, a member of the ESU football team, this scholarship is awarded to an ESU football player with financial need. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
Nick Merli Scholarship
Established in honor of Nick Merli, father of Assistant Track & Field Coach Christopher Merli, this scholarship is awarded to an ESU student who is either a sophomore, junior or senior and a member of the ESU men's or women's Track & Field Team. This scholarship is renewable provided the student continues to be enrolled full-time at ESU and maintains at least a 2.50 QPA. The Lawrence A. Pieretti Memorial Scholarship
These $500 awards were established by Karen Pieretti '77, in memory of her father and in recognition of athletic achievement. These awards of $500 per recipient are awarded to two female students who entered ESU and have never received a varsity letter in any sport but are currently a member of an ESU athletic team. One $500 is given to a male with the same criteria as the female recipients except he must be a member of the ESU Warriors football team. James C. Roberts IV Scholarship
Established in memory of James C. Roberts IV, this scholarship is awarded to an ESU football player majoring in Secondary Education, Education or Movement Studies & Exercise Science with first preference given to Secondary Education majors. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
Toby Barkman Scholarship
Established in honor of Toby Barkman, this scholarship is awarded to an ESU football player. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
Kevin P. Ruddy Red-Shirt Football Scholarship
Established by William and Marilyn Ruddy, this scholarship is award to an underclass member of the ESU football team who is awarded the Red-Shirt Award, which exemplifies Warriors football based on commitment to the team, academics and civics as determined by the coaches and team. In the event the award goes to a senior, then the next highest vote, who is an underclassman, will receive the award. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
Joseph C. & Joanne Heverin Scholarship
Established in the names of ESU alumni Joseph C. and Joanne Heverin and is awarded to an incoming freshman or transfer student who is a member of the ESU football team. Preference will be given to students majoring in elementary education. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
Krawitz Family Scholarship
Established in honor of the Krawitz Family, who were avid supporters of ESU athletics. Recipients must be ESU cross country or track & field team members. Priority will be given to students majoring in a program in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. Women's Athletic Scholarship

Emma Koehler Smith Scholarship

Gary Kessel Wrestling Scholarship
Established by Dominic DiGioacchio to honor the contributions of Gary Kessel for his 25 years of service to ESU as a wrestler and coach. Clyde "Red" Witman Scholarship
Established by Dominic DiGioacchio to honor the contributions of former ESU wrestling coach and athletic director Clyde Witman. Dr. Charles P. Wolbers Scholarship
Established in memory of Dr. Charles P. Wolbers who was an education at East Stroudsburg University from 1961 to 1980. Students must be a member of the men's or women's tennis team. Contact: Al McCormick, Head Tennis Coach at East Stroudsburg University (570) 422-3901.
Duane Struppler Jr. Scholarship
Established in memory of Duane Struppler Jr., a Warriors football player who died in a car crash. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
The Stanley F. Tchorz Softball Scholarship
Established by Stanley F. and Rosemarie I. Tchorz. Students must be a junior member of the varsity softball team; have a minimum 2.75 QPA and exhibit a high level of team spirit and enthusiasm as determined by consensus of the softball coaching staff. Peter Nevins Scholarship for Cross-Country, Track & Field
Established in memory of Peter Nevins, former ESU Sports Information Director. Scholarship is awarded to a member of the varsity cross-country and/or track and field team at ESU who is eligible to participate in accordance with NCAA regulations. Jeff Dailey Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Jeff Dailey, a member of the ESU Men's Basketball family. Scholarship is awarded to a full-time student that is a member of the ESU Men's Basketball team who is in good academic and social standing. Dr. Cummings A. "Jake" Piatt Memorial Endowed Scholarship (available 2009)
Established in memory of Dr. Cummings A. "Jake" Piatt. Scholarship is awarded to a member of the football team who is in good standing with the university community. Recipient must be a full time student and maintain at least a 2.5 QPA. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
Doc Sutton Scholarship for Football
Established by Dr. Robert Sutton, this scholarship is awarded to a member of the Warrior Football team that is majoring in Physical Education (teaching concentration) and/or Sports Management. The recipient must be an offensive lineman who is eligible to participate in accordance with NCAA regulations. Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the head football coach.
Women's Swimming Endowed Scholarship

Robert A. Kearn ’58 Football Endowed Scholarship
Established by Robert A. and Anne Kearn, this scholarship is awarded to a member of the ESU Football team who is eligible to participate in accordance with NCAA regulations. Scholarship is awarded by the head football coach and Athletic Director.
Dr. James and Mrs. Judith Leiding ‘76 Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. James and Mrs. Judith Leiding, this scholarship alternates between a member of the ESU football team majoring in any field of student leading to secondary education teacher certification and a female student majoring in elementary education, who is a returning adult, non-traditional student.
