Basketball Ireland releaseRelated:King signs 3rd pro contract in Argentina (March 14)EAST STROUDSBURG - Former East Stroudsburg University men's basketball standout Duane Johnson has been named to the Basketball Ireland Premier League first team for the 2015-16 season, announced this week, after leading the league in scoring and rebounding.
Johnson (Lansdowne, Pa./Penn Wood), a three-time All-PSAC East selection at ESU from 2011-13, averaged 26.2 points, 18.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists (12th in the league), 2.6 steals (5th) and 3.1 blocks (2nd) in 12 games for DCU Saints, based in Dublin.
Johnson was previously named the league's Player of the Month for December, averaging 30.3 points, 20.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists in four games.
He completed his second professional season after playing for the Corio Bay Stingrays in Australia in 2013-14. He helped the team to a 22-2 regular season record and a spot in the three-game championship series. In 27 games, he averaged 20.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.3 blocks per game while posting 13 double-doubles.
Johnson's former ESU teammate, Terrance King, recently signed his third professional contract, landing with San Isidro San Francisco in Argentina. King began his pro career in Ireland for UDC-Marian in 2013-14 and was named to the Eurobasket.com All-Irish Premier League second team. He ranked in the top 10 in the league in scoring (19.6 ppg), rebounding (11.1 rpg) and blocked shots (2.0 bpg) while leading the league in field goal percentage (68.1).
In his four years at ESU, Johnson was the third three-time All-PSAC East selection in program history, joining Jonathan Roberts and Lonnie White.
He was part of four straight PSAC Final Four teams and three NCAA Division II Tournament teams, helping the Warriors reach the NCAA Tournament in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
He helped lead ESU to the 2012 PSAC championship, when he was named to the All-PSAC East first team.
Johnson finished his career ranked seventh at ESU in career points (1,347), ninth in rebounds (608), fourth in steals (148), eighth in blocks (90) and second in free throws made (369). He and Roberts are the only two players in school history to rank in the top 10 in both steals and blocks. He completed his career with 3,267 career minutes, the most by an ESU player since at least 1990.
As a junior, he was first team All-PSAC East and helped the Warriors to the second PSAC championship in school history. He averaged 12.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, ranking third on the Warriors in scoring and second in rebounding, assists, steals and blocked shots. He had 19 points, four rebounds, two assists, four steals and a block in a 90-85 win at West Chester in the PSAC championship game, and averaged big all-around numbers (13.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals, 1.3 blocks) in the three-game run to the PSAC title.
During his senior year, Johnson was an All-PSAC East second team pick while helping ESU to its fourth straight PSAC Final Four and third NCAA Tournament in his career. He was second on the Warriors with 14.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, and ranked in the top 20 in the PSAC in four categories - scoring, rebounding, steals and blocks.
Johnson and King, a two-time All-PSAC East selection and the 2012 PSAC Tournament MVP, graduated with school records with 118 games played and 12 postseason games. They were members of a senior class that won two PSAC East championships (2010, 2013) and a school-record 82 games, along with their four PSAC Final Four trips, three NCAA Tournament trips and the 2012 PSAC championship.
