EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University redshirt senior tailback
Robert Healy has been named to the D2CCA All-Super Region 1 first team for the 2016 football season, it was released Friday.
Healy (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) earns his third career All-Region honor and his first placement on the first team. He was named to the Football Gazette third team as a freshman in 2013, and the Football Gazette second team as an all-purpose back as a junior in 2015.
Late last month, Healy was recognized as one of seven nominees from Super Region 1 for the Harlon Hill Award, which recognizes NCAA Division II football's most outstanding player.
Healy is a four-time All-PSAC East selection, including first team the last two years.
He set ESU single-season records for rushing yards (1,163) and rushing TD (18) as a senior, and set ESU career records in multiple categories, including rushing yards (3,993), yards from scrimmage and all-purpose yards (5,908), rushing attempts (677), 100-yard rushing games (16), games with 100 yards from scrimmage (35) and games with 200 yards from scrimmage (7).
His 5,908 career yards from scrimmage rank second among active DII players and fifth in PSAC history.
As a senior, Healy ranked second in DII in yards from scrimmage (172.6 ypg) through October 29, when he suffered a season-ending injury on the final play of the first half vs. West Chester. He returned to play one snap the following week on Senior Day vs. Lock Haven, setting ESU's single-season rushing record.
In 8.5 games of on-field action, Healy compiled 1,556 yards - 1,163 rushing and 393 receiving - and scored 19 touchdowns, 18 rushing and one receiving.
Through nine weeks, Healy also ranked 9th in DII in rushing (128.9 ypg), tied for 2nd in rushing TD (18) and tied for 4th in total TD (19). He led Super Region 1 in yards from scrimmage by 18 yards per game.
Despite missing the final 2.5 games of the season, Healy finished less than 100 yards from becoming the second player in PSAC history with 4,000 career rushing yards and 2,000 receiving yards. In 2015, he was the only NCAA football player with 750 yards both rushing (884) and receiving (757).
His 2016 season included 100 yards from scrimmage in each of the first eight games, 150+ six times, 200+ three times and 250+ twice. He had 292 yards (256 rushing, 4 TD; 36 receiving) in a 34-31 win at Mercyhurst, a week after compiling 274 yards (157 rushing, TD; 117 receiving) vs. No. 10-ranked IUP. He also had 208 yards (163 rushing, 3 TD; 45 receiving, TD) in a 38-23 win at Millersville.
Healy holds the top four seasons in yards from scrimmage by an ESU back in the Warriors' 43 seasons under head coach
Denny Douds - 1,641 yards in 2015, 1,556 yards this season, 1,378 yards in 2014 and 1,333 yards as a redshirt freshman in 2013.
He has two of ESU's three games with 100 yards both rushing and receiving in Douds' 43 seasons (since 1974). He also had 16 career games with 50 yards rushing/receiving - 12 more than any other Warrior - and five of ESU's nine games with 75 yards rushing/receiving under Douds.
Healy also put together ESU's three longest streaks of 100 yards from scrimmage under Douds (451 games) - a pair of 12-game streaks and a seven-game run.
He had two of ESU's top three single-game yards from scrimmage performances this season, and four of the top seven single-season efforts.
Along with his school records, he scored 32 career rushing TD (t-2nd at ESU) and 44 total TD (4th).
He also ranks 10th at ESU and second among running backs in career receptions (143), and 15th at ESU and second among running backs in career receiving yards (1,915).
As a redshirt freshman in 2013, Healy became ESU's first running back (non-fullback) named All-Region since Pete Radocha (1976), Harold Strunk (1977) and Frank Bell (1978) were named All-ECAC in consecutive seasons.
The D2CCA All-Region and All-America teams are nominated and voted on by sports information directors at the regional and national levels.
