3 p.m. - ESU vs. West Chester (PREVIEW)Championship - Sunday, Nov. 22 (1:30 p.m.)Related: PSAC championship recapEAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University is the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Region in the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Tournament and will play the winner of Saturday's first-round game between Millersville and West Chester in the semifinals on Friday, November 20 at 3 p.m. at Bloomsburg University.
ESU (17-3) won the first PSAC championship in program history with a 1-0 win over Millersville on Sunday at Whitenight Field. The Warriors are 2-1 against Millersville and 2-0 against West Chester this season.
Millersville (18-2) is the No. 2 seed and will host No. 3 seed West Chester (16-4) on Saturday.
In the Northeast Region bracket, Stonehill (14-6) is the No. 1 seed and will play the winner of Merrimack (14-5) and Adelphi (14-5) in the semifinals.
ESU will make its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance and fourth as a member of Division II.
The Warriors are in the tournament for the first time since consecutive appearances in 2009 and 2010. They were national runner-up in 2001. ESU qualified for the DIII Tournament in 1987, 1988 and 1990.
Millersville is the defending national champion and is making its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Marauders previously made six DIII appearances between 1984 and 1990. Last year's national title was the first in program history.
West Chester is in the tournament for the fifth straight year after reclassifying from DI. The Golden Rams were the national champions in 2011 and 2012. They made two DI Tournament appearances in 1986 and 1987.
The PSAC has won 20 of the 23 NCAA DII championships contested since 1992.
ESU enters the NCAA Tournament ranked fourth in DII in scoring (3.0 goals per game), second in goals against average (0.74 gaa) and first in scoring margin (+2.23).
Senior forward
Ally Roth, a three-time first team All-PSAC selection and two-time NFHCA All-America first team choice, ranks fourth in DII in goals per game (0.95), with 19 in 20 games, and seventh in points (2.0 per game). Roth is third among active DII players in career goals (72) and points (168).
Junior goalkeeper
Danielle Ard ranks second nationally in goals against average (0.78), allowing 15 goals in 1350:52 in the cage.
Millersville has DII's top scoring defense (0.39 gaa), allowing eight goals in 20 games. ESU edged the Marauders, 1-0, on Sunday in the PSAC championship game and October 13 in a PSAC game. Goalkeeper Samantha Rumler leads DII in goals against average (0.21), allowing just three goals, including two by the Warriors.
West Chester has DII's top scoring offense (3.60 goals per game), ranks 10th in scoring defense (1.36 gaa) and second in scoring margin (+2.14).
WCU has three players in the top seven in DII in goals per game in sophomore Rachal Toppi (1.05 - 21 in 20 games), junior Dayle Paustian (0.82 - 14 in 17 games) and junior Marnie Kusakavitch (0.80 - 16 in 20 games).
On the other side of the bracket, Stonehill is making its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh in the last 11 years. ESU posted a 5-1 win over the Skyhawks in the season opener on September 5.
Merrimack is in for the fourth time in five years (2011-13, 15). Adelphi is making its second straight DII Tournament appearance and fell at ESU, 4-1, on September 6.
