EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University is listed second in this week's set of NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Atlantic Region rankings, released Wednesday afternoon.
This is the final set of regional rankings prior to the announcement of the NCAA Division II Tournament field, set for Sunday night at 10:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
ESU (26-1) has a 24-1 Division II record, and 24-1 in-region record, through games played last Sunday.
The Warriors advanced to their fifth straight PSAC Final Four on Tuesday night with a 78-58 win over Millersville, and will host the Final Four this weekend at Koehler Fieldhouse.
West Liberty (W.V.), the three-time Atlantic Region champion, is ranked first in the region with a 22-2 DII mark, and 21-2 in-region record through Sunday.
Indiana (Pa.) is third, followed by Charleston (W.V.), Gannon, Fairmont State, Shepherd, Glenville State, WV Wesleyan and Livingstone.
The PSAC champion will earn an automatic bid on Sunday, and Livingstone earned the CIAA's automatic bid last Saturday.
The remaining six spots in the Atlantic Region are reserved for at-large teams.
ESU (No. 2) and Gannon (No. 5) will compete in the PSAC Final Four this weekend, along with West Chester and Mercyhurst.
Gannon faces West Chester on Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by ESU vs. Mercyhurst at 3:30 p.m. The winners will play for the PSAC title on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
ESU is ranked No. 2 in this week's NABC DII Coaches Poll, its highest national ranking in program history. The NABC poll is not used to select the NCAA Tournament field or seeding.
ESU has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in three of the last four years (2010, 2012, 2013). The only other Atlantic Region teams to advance at least three times since 2009-10 are West Liberty (4), IUP (4) and Winston-Salem (3).
