EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior
Rose Mascoli and senior
Devyn Emerich swept the PSAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week Awards, respectively, for their performances for East Stroudsburg University at the Mountain Hawk Invite at Lehigh last weekend.
Mascoli (Lebanon/Lebanon Catholic) won the 5000m on Friday night with a time of 17:42.89, the fastest in the PSAC this season and the fourth-best in school history. The time is eight seconds off the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard and came in her first 5000m in indoor track.
An All-American in cross country and outdoor track and field, Mascoli is competing indoors for the first time this season after competing for the ESU swimming team the last two winters. She holds outdoor records in the 3K, 5K and 10K, was an All-American in the 3K and 10K last spring, and was an All-American in cross country as a sophomore.
Emerich (Bernville/Tulpehocken) cleared 5-5 to win the high jump and earn her second career weekly award in indoor track and field. She tied for the title at Lehigh with freshman
Christina O'Connor and won on number of jumps. The mark of 5-5 is 3/4 of an inch off the NCAA provisional qualifier.
Emerich is a five-time placewinner in the high jump at PSAC Championships, including third-place finishes indoors in 2009 and 2011. She was an NCAA provisional qualifier during both the indoor and outdoor seasons as a freshman in 2009 and was the PSAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week after her first career indoor meet.
The Warriors are at the midpoint of the indoor track and field season this weekend at the Bucknell Heptagonal as they prepare for the PSAC Championships on February 25-26 and hit qualifying marks for the NCAA Championships on March 9-10.
