Warriors’ Grant Named PSAC East Freshman of the Week

EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University's Whis Grant has been named the PSAC East Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week for the second time this season after helping the Warriors to a pair of road wins in divisional play, it was announced Monday.

Grant (Plymouth Meeting/Plymouth Whitemarsh) averaged 15.5 points, 3.0 assists and shot 64.7 percent in two games, with 17 points and five assists in an 88-76 win at Millersville on Wednesday and 14 points and an assist in a 69-64 win at Shippensburg on Saturday.

The Warriors' top scorer with 13.9 points per game, Grant has excelled in road and neutral site competition so far this season. He has hit double figures in all eight games, averaging 17.0 points per game, including 30 points in his ESU debut against No. 6-ranked West Liberty at Shippensburg's Heiges Field House on November 12 to earn his first PSAC East weekly honor.

He shot 11-for-17 from the field, 4-for-8 from long distance and 5-for-6 at the foul line for the week, opening with 12 points in the first half at Millersville. He scored nine points in the second half on Saturday at Shippensburg, helping ESU overcome a 34-32 halftime deficit, including a run of six straight points early in the half. His assist came on a dunk by junior forward Duane Johnson that gave the Warriors a four-point lead with 1:30 remaining.

Grant is shooting 48.8 percent overall and 40.7 percent (33-for-81) from the three-point line and averaging 2.8 points, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals to go with his 13.9 points per game.

He has scored in double figures in 15 of ESU's 18 games and led or shared the game-high in scoring nine times, including Saturday at Shippensburg. Junior forward Terrance King also scored 14 at Shippensburg after netting a career-high 26 in the win at Millersville.

The Warriors host Bloomsburg in a key PSAC East match-up on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse. The Huskies lead the division with a 9-3 record, two games ahead of ESU at 7-5, with 10 games remaining in the stretch run.

Wednesday's doubleheader will be broadcast on Blue Ridge TV-13 and ESU Warriors “All Access”. The women's game will air live at 6 p.m. on Blue Ridge digital 113, followed by the men's game live on Blue Ridge TV-13 at 8 p.m. and the replay of the women's game at 10:30 p.m. ESU Warriors “All Access” will carry the men's game at 8 p.m. and the women's game at 10:30 p.m.
