NABC Honors Court release

EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University men's basketball players Andy Heimbach and Mike Tobin have been named to the NABC Honors Court for their academic and athletic accomplishments during the 2009-10 season.

Heimbach (Allentown/Central Catholic), the Warriors' Male Senior Athlete of the Year and the school's all-time leading three-point shooter, and Tobin (Hopatcong, N.J./Hopatcong), a junior forward, helped ESU to a school record-setting 24 wins, a share of the PSAC East regular season title and the second trip to the NCAA Tournament in school history.

The NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) Honors Court recognizes juniors and seniors at all NCAA or NAIA institutions who have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.2 at the end of the 2009-10 academic year. A total of 13 student-athletes from the PSAC are included on the list.

Heimbach, a History major, capped his senior year with first team All-PSAC East honors after netting 12.6 points per game to lead the highest-scoring offense in the PSAC (79.1 ppg). He made 76 three-pointers, a school record and the second-most in the PSAC, and shattered the Warriors' all-time mark with 236 three's in his career, 74 more than the runner-up. He scored 1,153 points and was one of ESU's top two scorers in each of his last three years.

As a senior, Heimbach led the Warriors in scoring in 11 of their 30 games, including a 20-point effort that featured six three-pointers in a 76-65 win over Cheyney in the first round of the PSAC playoffs. He also had an assist-to-turnover ratio of nearly 2-1 (62 assists, 32 turnovers) and had 153 career assists while helping ESU to a record 76 wins and three PSAC playoff appearances over his four years.

Tobin, a Health and Physical Education major, averaged a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game and was second with 10.2 points per game during a breakout season. He averaged 26.4 minutes per game, also second on the team, and helped the Warriors rank second in the PSAC in rebounding margin (+6.2 per game) as the only player averaging more than 5.0 boards per game.

He started all 30 games after making just one start as a sophomore and contributed seven 10-rebound games, three double-doubles, and a career-high 22 points in a win over West Chester. He posted a dozen games with at least 10 points and seven rebounds, including four straight late in the season, and the Warriors were 9-1 when he hit double figures in conference action.

The Warriors' record setting season, which included the longest undefeated start (13-0) and best 20-game start (19-1) in program history, saw them achieve a national ranking for six straight weeks and peak at No. 12 on February 9. ESU hosted the PSAC Final Four for the first time ever and claimed the PSAC East regular season title and a spot in the conference semifinals for the first time since 1992.

Head coach Jeff Wilson was named the PSAC East and NABC Atlantic Region Coach of the Year and will bring a 125-96 record into his ninth season this winter. The Warriors' 92 wins over the last five years are the most in school history.
