ESU Academic Awards History
EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University placed five student-athletes on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Track and Field team, including three who will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration, it was announced Thursday.

Janelle Smith and junior
Lynn Mayer are on the second team. The quintet has combined for 18 PSAC championships, 19 appearances at the NCAA championships and six All-America honors in their careers, and Wagner was a third team Academic All-American last year.
ESU and Shippensburg (six total selections) are the only two schools who placed multiple athletes on both the men's and women's teams. Slippery Rock (three) and California (two) helped the PSAC attain 16 of the 42 student-athletes who were selected.
ESU finishes the 2009-10 academic year with 10 Academic All-District selections for the third straight year, ranking third behind California (16) and Shippensburg (12) for the most in the PSAC. The Warriors led the conference in 2007-08 and tied Gannon for the most with 10 selections in 2008-09.
Matt Freed (football) and Toric Robinson (men's soccer) were named Academic All-Americans in the fall, and were joined by Zach Sarginger (football) and Lindsay Foder and Kailyn Buckley (women's soccer) on All-District squads. A total of 21 student-athletes have combined for the 30 Academic All-District nods over the past three years.
The Academic All-District program is administered by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). SID's nominate and vote on the student-athletes at the district level with first team selections moving on to the national level. The college division of District II is comprised of all Division II and Division III institutions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia.

2008 and 2010 Academic All-District first team selection . . 3-time PSAC champion . . pentathlon champion and heptathlon runner-up and NCAA qualifier in three events (pentathlon, heptathlon, outdoor long jump) this year . . placed 10th in pentathlon at NCAA's . . won PSAC heptathlon and indoor triple jump titles in 2008 and participated in heptathlon at NCAA's . . has placed in the top 8 in the PSAC 21 times in her career (15 individual, 6 relays) . . 7-time placewinner in high jump.
Paul Wagner (Titusville, N.J./Hopewell Valley), Senior, 3.80, Sport Management
2009 Academic All-America third team . . 2009 and 2010 Academic All-District first team selection . . named ESU's Men's Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year . . 8-time PSAC champion, 4-time NCAA participant and 2-time All-American . . won 4 PSAC titles as a senior – weight and shot put indoors and hammer and shot put outdoors . . PSAC Men's Athlete of the Meet during outdoor season . . All-American in hammer in 2009 and 2010 . . won three straight PSAC weight and hammer titles . . hold school, PSAC and championship meet records in both events . . posted top marks of 66-3 3/4 in weight and 203-2 in hammer.

NCAA Degree Completion Award recipient . . 5-time PSAC champion and 4-time NCAA participant in triple jump . . competed in triple jump and long jump at NCAA outdoor championships . . PSAC champion both indoors and outdoors in 2010 . . hit NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 50-8 3/4 during outdoor season and jumped 50-1 3/4 to qualify indoors . . NCAA provisional mark of 23-11 3/4 in outdoor long jump . . also won PSAC triple jump titles in 2009 (indoor) and 2008 (indoor/outdoor).
Janelle Smith (Auburn/Schuylkill Haven), Senior, 3.72, Speech Pathology
5-time NCAA qualifier and 4-time NCAA participant in high jump . . had career-best mark of 5-7 3/4 during 2010 outdoor season, tied for 8th in Division II entering NCAA's . . placed 2nd outdoors and 4th indoors in the PSAC as a senior . . placed in all eight PSAC championships in her career . . 10th at 2009 NCAA outdoor championships . . competed at NCAA's both indoors and outdoors as a sophomore in 2008. . won women's eastern high jump at 2009 Penn Relays, clearing 5-7.
Lynn Mayer (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville), Junior, 3.40, Elementary and Special Education
4-time All-American (tied for the most in school history) and 2-time PSAC champion in high jump . . tied for 2nd indoors and tied for 3rd outdoors at NCAA championships and won both PSAC titles this season . . NCAA automatic qualifier outdoors at 5-9 3/4 . . won individual titles in nine of 11 meets outdoors, finishing as runner-up at Penn Relays and t-3rd at NCAA's . . All-American both indoors and outdoors as a freshman in 2008 . . also competed outdoors in 2009 . . five top-3 finishes in first six PSAC championships.
