EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University student-athletes Jeff Case and Sam Shuman were named as members of the 2010 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society for their cumulative efforts on the gridiron and in the classroom.

The award recognizes starters or significant reserves in their final year of eligibility who have achieved at least a 3.2 grade-point average throughout their undergraduate study and met all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.

Case (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren), a redshirt junior defensive end majoring in Biology and Secondary Education, and Shuman (Lancaster/Hempfield), a redshirt senior wide receiver majoring in Pharmacy, were both starters on the Warriors' 2009 NCAA Division II playoff team.

Case was a second team All-PSAC East selection in his second year as a starter. He led ESU's defensive linemen in tackles (45), tackles for a loss (13.5) and sacks (7.5), ranking second on the team behind All-American linebacker Matt Freed in TFL and sacks. Over the final four weeks of the regular season, Case had 18 tackles, 8.5 TFL and 5.5 sacks, including three sacks in a 44-3 win over Millersville.

Shuman had 131 catches for 2,043 yards and 18 touchdowns in his career at ESU, including a team-high eight touchdowns as a senior. He had at least 25 catches and 400 yards in each of his four years and is one of eight Warriors with 2,000 career receiving yards. Shuman was second team All-PSAC East and an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection as ESU's leading receiver in 2007.

A high school quarterback and punter, Shuman was the first ESU player in 24 years to complete a pass, score a touchdown and punt in the same season. He handled the punting duties against Bloomsburg and was 3-for-3 for 124 yards passing this season and 6-for-7 for 238 yards and a touchdown in his career.

The Hampshire Honor Society was launched in 2007 and membership has increased by 80 percent since its inaugural year. More than 250 institutions participated in nominating student-athletes this year.
