IWLCA All-Region teams
EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior midfielder
Michelle Mangiaruga has been named to the IWLCA Division II All-South Region second team and is East Stroudsburg University's first all-region selection in lacrosse since 2006, it was announced Thursday.
Mangiaruga (North Wales/North Penn) was the Warriors' second-leading scorer this season on a team that tied the school record with 11 wins and made the PSAC tournament for the second time in three years.
She is a two-time first team All-PSAC East selection and is ESU's first all-region player since goalkeeper Julie Smith, who was on the first team in 2005 and the second team in 2006.
Mangiaruga had 40 goals and 17 assists this season after a 47-goal, 12-assist campaign in 2009. She will enter her senior year with 102 career goals and 35 assists, and at least three goals in 20 of her 40 games for the Warriors.
She scored at least two goals in eight straight games to finish the 2010 season, which coincided with her return from injury after a two game absence. She scored a career-high six goals in a 13-10 loss at nationally-ranked Dowling, had five goals in a win at Millersville earlier in the season, and had four goals and an assist in ESU's 19-15 loss at Bloomsburg in the first round of the PSAC playoffs.
Mangiaruga and classmates
Molly O'Hara and
Christine Bradley combined for 124 of ESU's school record 232 goals this season and will lead a veteran team in 2011. Two defenders, junior
Brittany Bissell and freshman
Jennifer Kelly, were also All-PSAC East selections and O'Hara was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Year.
The All-Region teams are selected by the IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association) and honor 64 athletes in Division II, 32 in both the North and South regions. The PSAC has 24 of the 32 athletes recognized in the South region.
