NCBWA All-Region team
EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University senior pitcher
Christian Saveri has been named to the NCBWA All-Atlantic Region second team for the 2010 baseball season, it was announced late Tuesday.
Saveri (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic) has been named to the second team on both All-Region teams announced so far this spring, earning mention from Daktronics, selected by the region's sports information directors, last week and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) this week. The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) squad is expected to be announced shortly as well.
Saveri was the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year for the Warriors after a season that included a 3.37 ERA, 65 strikeouts and 14 walks in 69.1 innings. He led the PSAC with 42.2 innings pitched in conference games, going deep into all six weekend starts and adding two saves, while leading ESU to the PSAC playoffs for the fourth time in school history.
He finished his career with school records for games pitched in a season (22, 2009) and career (65) and had a 3.32 ERA, 122 strikeouts and 23 walks in 119.1 innings over his final two seasons, earning All-PSAC recognition both years. He also ranks second in ESU history with nine saves, sixth with 161 strikeouts, and has the fourth-lowest career ERA (3.94) since 1985.
ESU has had five NCBWA All-Region selections over the past five years, all on the second team – Saveri in 2010, pitcher
Jeremy Gigliotti and outfielder
Kevin Thompson in 2009, second baseman Jacob DeBoer in 2007 and outfielder Josh Butler in 2006 and 2007.
Saveri is the fourth All-Region pitcher in school history, joining Gigliotti, Joel Bennett (1990-91) and Mike Balent (1985). Balent is the only other Warrior to earn the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year honor.
