PSAC Championships preview

EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University junior Lynn Mayer has been named the PSAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the final week of the 2010 outdoor track and field regular season following her performance at Kutztown on Saturday.

Mayer (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville) cleared 5-8 3/4 in the high jump to win her eighth individual title in nine meets this season and enters this weekend's PSAC Championships as the defending indoor champ in the event.

Her season-best mark of 5-9 3/4 is tied for second in Division II and the best in the PSAC, 2 3/4 inches ahead of teammate Janelle Smith. She reached the NCAA automatic qualifying mark while competing in the women's Eastern high jump at the Penn Relays, the only meet that she hasn't won outdoors despite breaking the previous meet record.

Mayer was the national runner-up indoors, finishing in a tie for second with a mark of 5-8 1/2. She is a three-time All-American and was honored both indoors and outdoors as a freshman in 2008.

The 2010 PSAC Championships, hosted by West Chester, begin on Thursday at Farrell Stadium with the first half of the men's decathlon, the first four events in the women's heptathlon and the men's and women's 10,000m finals.

The women's high jump will be contested on Friday afternoon as Mayer looks for her second PSAC championship and leads a contingent of five Warriors who placed in the top eight indoors – Mayer, Smith, seniors Trina Carito and Emily Hollick and sophomore Devyn Emerich. Smith has placed in the top eight in all seven PSAC meets during her career.
