EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior
Katie D'Ambrosia has been named East Stroudsburg University's Championship Award Guys Athlete of the Week for her performance at the top of the lineup for the Warriors' women's tennis team.
D'Ambrosia (Broomall/Marple Newtown) went 3-0 at No. 2 singles and 2-2 at No. 1 doubles last week as the Warriors finished the 2009-10 season with a 14-8 record.
The week included a 5-4 win over West Virginia Wesleyan, ranked No. 5 in the ITA Atlantic Region, on Saturday at the Bloomsburg Duals. D'Ambrosia had a three-set win (3-6, 6-2, 6-3) in singles and earned at 9-7 doubles win with partner
Jamie Ferrigno.
ESU opened the week with a 5-4 win at West Chester on Wednesday, with D'Ambrosia recording a 6-1, 6-1 singles victory. The Warriors lost 5-0 to Charleston (No. 6 Atlantic Region) at Bloomsburg and posted a 9-0 win over Chestnut Hill on Sunday.
D'Ambrosia and Ferrigno, a two-time All-PSAC doubles team, went 19-6 on the season, including a 17-4 record in duals. The pairing is 45-21 in their career at ESU. Ferrigno was named ESU's Athlete of the Week for her play last fall, and both athletes were recognized as the PSAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week this season.
D'Ambrosia has also notched a 40-25 record in singles in her three years and was 17-6 during the 2009-10 campaign. She went 16-4 in duals, all at No. 2, and ended the year on a five-match winning streak.
