EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University will hold a number of events around Saturday's home football with Cheyney, including dedications of the Dr. Jake Piatt '61 President's Box and Gregory-Douds Field at Eiler-Martin Stadium during and after the 1 p.m. kickoff with the Wolves.
Saturday's game will be presented by United Way of Monroe County as the organization is in the middle of its 2010 campaign drive to assist with community initiatives and local programs. ESU's Kappa Delta Pi education honor society will be collecting school supplies for children in need throughout Monroe County which will be distributed through United Way.
The Warriors will also hold their annual “Take a Kid to the Game” event. All children under age 12 will be admitted free of charge with an adult, and the first 100 kids will receive a free poster, mini football and Frosty coupon compliments of Wendy's.
The ESU Service Learning Initiative Committee, in conjunction with Sociology Club, will hold a food drive for non-perishable items at the entrance to Eiler-Martin Stadium. The items will be distributed through the Salvation Army and Head Start, and individuals who bring donations will receive a free ticket to a future ESU home event.
United Way of Monroe County's 2010 campaign is chaired by Pat Ross and has raised $299,365 since the start of the campaign, one-quarter of the way to its goal of $1.2 million. ESU and its State Employees Combined Appeal (SECA) campaign is a valued partner with United Way.
The organization provides health and human services through community initiatives and funding to 35 local programs. Its targeted need areas include Engaging Youth, Meeting Basic Needs, Helping Children Succeed and Promoting Self-Sufficiency. “Live United” is part of the United Way's new mission of giving, advocating and volunteering to produce lasting changes in the community and advance the common good.
