6/20/2006 12:00:00 AM

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University thrower Dan Gale (Heilserville, N.J./Millville) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team, it was announced Tuesday.

Gale finished 13th in the javelin at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships with a throw of 198 feet and has a 3.92 grade point average in health and physical education.

Voting for the teams is done by sports information directors who are members of the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America. There were three teams selected for two divisions, University (Division I schools) and College (Division II and III universities).

The All-America honor is the latest in a busy spring of awards for Gale. He was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Spring Top Ten, was named ESU's Male Scholar Athlete of the Year and won the Penn Relays with a throw of 209-5 to become the first athlete to win an event at the Philadelphia meet during head coach Joe Koch's 20-year tenure. He also won the Richard Stockton Invitational, the Slippery Rock Open and the PSAC East championships.

Gale earned All-America honors in 2004 for the javelin and will attend the University of North Carolina to pursue a master's degree in athletic administration.
